Real Madrid ● Road to Victory UCL 2022 | 14th European Cup Title

Real Madrid beats Liverpool 1-0 for 14th European Cup title Liverpool couldn’t find way past Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois: ‘Today nobody was going to get in my way,’ he said. Real Madrid became European champions for a record-extending 14th time after beating Liverpool 1-0 in a Champions League final that started 37 minutes late because of disturbing crowd issues outside the Stade de France near Paris. Brazil winger Vinícius Júnior applied a close-range finish in the 59th minute from Federico Valverde’s drive across the face of the Liverpool goal, securing a win on Saturday that gave Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti a record fourth European Cup title. While Madrid completed a Champions League-La Liga double, Liverpool finished a season that promised so much. A week ago, it was in contention for an unprecedented quadruple of major trophies – with the two domestic cups in England. The English team couldn’t find a way past Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who tipped Sadio Mane’s first-half shot onto the post and produced an even better save to turn away Mohamed Salah’s effort in the 81st minute. “Today nobody was going to get in my way,” Courtois said. “I was going to win a Champions League no matter what.” Vinicius sank to his knees and covered his face at full-time. Many of his teammates sprinted the length of the field to celebrate in front of Madrid’s fans at one end of the stadium. Marcelo, Madrid’s serial winner of trophies who didn’t even play a minute of the final on Saturday, was given the honour of lifting the trophy to a backdrop of fireworks and ticker tape. King of European soccer Madrid has cemented its status as the king of European football, given the Spanish giant owns double the number of European Cups as the No. 2 on the list, AC Milan. Liverpool stayed on six. Pre-match crowd issues marred this final, though, and are sure to be the focus of an investigation by UEFA and authorities in the coming days. With 45 minutes remaining before kickoff, there were still long lines of Liverpool fans waiting to be allowed into the stadium. There were also sporadic instances of fans breaking through security and sprinting onto the concourse. The situation started to get out of hand as riot police deployed tear gas on Liverpool supporters in the lines, while some fans were seen climbing the fences. Officers with batons and riot shields ran from gate to gate to prevent pockets of fans from forcing their way into the stadium without showing tickets.

Liverpool vs Real Madrid 0-1 Highlights & Goals - Final UCL 2021/2022

Liverpool 0-1 Real Madrid: Champions League defeat caps miserable end to magnificent season amid Paris chaos. Liverpool's magnificent season once offered up the tantalising prospect of a historic quadruple only to end amid the chaos of Paris with a lop-sided mixture of emotions. This was a miserable night for Liverpool and their supporters on every level imaginable as Real Madrid did what they do best and won the Champions League for a 14th time. Real's 1-0 victory, secured by Vinicius Junior's 59th-minute winner, wrote coach Carlo Ancelotti's name into the history books indelibly with his record fourth triumph as a coach in this tournament. For Liverpool, it capped six days of desperate disappointment after missing out on the Premier League to Manchester City by a single point then losing to this experienced, street-smart Real team. This final, however, will not simply be remembered for Liverpool's defeat and Real's victory. It will also be remembered for the scenes outside Stade de France in the hours leading to kick-off, when a road leading out of an underpass adjacent to the stadium became dangerously overcrowded with Liverpool supporters. As you walked alongside those fans, you could feel temperatures and frustrations growing by the minute with large crowds making no progress. It was an unpleasant, uncomfortable experience. As tension rose, even larger queues formed at entrances to the stadium, ending with French police using pepper spray and tear gas on supporters and the kick-off being delayed by 36 minutes as the Liverpool end of this vast bowl remained sparsely populated. Liverpool have demanded a formal investigation into the events while Uefa claimed turnstiles "became blocked by thousands of fans who had purchased fake tickets which did not work". This was the desperate backdrop to a game in which Liverpool created so many opportunities but ran into one of the great goalkeeping performances from Thibaut Courtois. As Liverpool's players slumped to the turf, with Trent Alexander-Arnold standing motionless for several minutes, manager Jurgen Klopp and his players will reflect on an outstanding campaign that brought two trophies but also ended in undoubted anti-climax. Alexander-Arnold looked particularly downcast, not just at the pain of defeat but also the fact that Vinicius arrived in yards of space behind him to score what proved to be Real's winner. And there is a remarkable statistic which bears examination, especially when it is attached to a team renowned for its attacking prowess. Liverpool won the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup, both on penalties, against Chelsea. The blank scoresheet here means that in three finals they have not scored a goal in open play, including two periods of extra time. Given they have the attacking quality of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Luis Diaz, Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota, it is always a surprise when they do not hit the back of the net. It did not cost them in the EFL Cup and FA Cup but it did here. And the man responsible was Courtois, who was as close to perfection as it is possible to be, making six saves from Salah alone plus a quite brilliant effort to turn Mane's shot on to the post. This was meant to be Salah's redemption night after he fell victim to a Sergio Ramos foul and went off injured after only 30 minutes of the 2018 final when Real beat Liverpool 3-1 in Kyiv. He made his intentions clear with his "we have a score to settle" tweet moments after Real Madrid's astonishing comeback in the semi-final second leg at the Bernabeu confirmed this latest meeting. Salah will ask himself forever how he did not score at least one goal here. He might have nightmares featuring the face of Courtois, such was the one-man barricade he formed. Liverpool have looked a little jaded from their exertions in recent weeks and there was an air of desperation about their attempts to restore equality in the closing minutes in the face of the experience and game management of opponents who are time-served masters of the Champions League art. Klopp and his players have given everything and will show off the EFL Cup and the FA Cup on their parade of Liverpool on Sunday, but how they would have loved to make it a seventh win in this competition. No-one in their right mind would paint Liverpool's season as a disappointment overall, given the silverware they have claimed and the relentlessly thrilling chase of Manchester City that looked, at one point on the season's final day, that it might bring the title until Pep Guardiola's side scored three goals in five minutes against Aston Villa. And but for Courtois' heroics that giant trophy might well have been making its way back to Merseyside. Instead, it was the smiling Ancelotti who held it aloft in front of adoring Real Madrid fans so used to this experience. He will enjoy the familiar feeling of a Champions League celebration on his return to Spain.

Liverpool vs PSG 4-4 (agg) Highlights & Goals - Group Stage | UCL 2018/2019

Liverpool face a nervy battle to reach the Champions League knockout stage after a damaging 2-1 defeat against an impressive Paris St-Germain. Jurgen Klopp's side, who were beaten finalists last season, are third in Group C and need to beat first-placed Napoli at Anfield next month to have a chance of progressing, with the Serie A side defeating Red Star Belgrade 3-1 in the other game. The Premier League side were outplayed for large periods of the game in Paris and James Milner's penalty on the stroke of half-time was their only shot on target in a lacklustre showing. By that point, they had already fallen two goals behind as Juan Bernat squeezed home the opener after Virgil van Dijk's poor clearance, before Neymar started and finished a swift team counter-attack to double the advantage. PSG could have had a more comfortable scoreline in the second half but Marquinhos had a goal disallowed for offside, and the defensive midfielder also had a header kept out by Brazilian compatriot Alisson. What do Liverpool need to progress? Bear with me... Champions League rules state that if teams are tied on points in the group stage, they are separated by the head-to-head record between sides. Napoli beat Liverpool 1-0 at home in the reverse game. If PSG beat Red Star in their final game, they will progress, meaning Liverpool need the following against Napoli: A 1-0 win will take them through on goals scored in the group stage A win by two or more goals will take them through, courtesy of a better head-to-head record. However, a 2-1 or 3-2 win will see them GO OUT, as Napoli will have scored an away goal or goals, so will progress on the head-to-head record. One last chance for Liverpool Liverpool's all-action attacking football took them to the final in the last campaign, where they were beaten 3-1 by Real Madrid. But this season in Europe they are yet to reach the heights of that wonderful run and are battling to remain in contention with one game left to play and avoid the ignominy of dropping into the Europa League, or getting knocked out altogether. The five-time European champions have now suffered four losses in their past six games in the competition, and have lost all their away games in the group stage for the first time. Mohamed Salah dragged a shot wide and Roberto Firmino headed off target in a disappointing performance, with both being kept quiet by PSG's imperious defensive partnership of Thiago Silva and Presnel Kimpembe. Despite the substandard showing, Liverpool's fate remains in their own hands and they will be fancied by many to get the margin of victory they need at a boisterous Anfield on Tuesday, 11 December. PSG finally coming of age? Although PSG have won the Ligue 1 title for five of the last six seasons and have claimed maximum points from 14 games this term, success in the Champions League is what the French side crave the most. Despite the vast amounts spent on player acquisitions since the Qatari takeover, they are yet to crack Europe's premier club competition and their best showing is only reaching the quarter-finals. But this was a complete showing in all departments by Thomas Tuchel's side and owed much to superstar forwards Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, the pair displaying mesmerising link-up play bursting with pace, energy and technical ability. Following Bernat's strike, which came after the usually reliable Van Dijk miscued his clearance, Neymar and Mbappe ripped Liverpool open with incisive passing play. Alisson made a sharp save to deny Edinson Cavani, but Neymar was on hand to convert the rebound for his 14th goal of the campaign and 31st overall in the Champions League, making him the highest-scoring Brazilian in the competition. Liverpool also found it difficult to get to grips with PSG's midfield duo of Marco Verratti and Marquinhos - the Italian completing 90.2% of his 51 passes, while his Brazilian partner gained possession back nine times, more than any other player on the pitch, and also contributed three tackles. The visitors may feel aggrieved that Verratti stayed on the field when he received just a yellow card in the first half for lunging in with his studs showing and catching Joe Gomez high on the shin.

Manchester City vs Chelsea 0-1 Highlights & Goals - Final UCL 2020/2021 | HD 1080p

Chelsea won the Champions League for the second time with a fully deserved victory over Manchester City in an all-Premier League confrontation in Porto. Thomas Tuchel got the better of his Manchester City counterpart Pep Guardiola for the third time since succeeding sacked Frank Lampard in January to bring European club football's biggest prize back to Stamford Bridge for the first time since 2012. Kai Havertz, blossoming after a slow start to his Chelsea career, got the winner three minutes before half-time when he collected a defence-splitting pass from Mason Mount to round City goalkeeper Ederson and score. It leaves City still searching for the Champions League, the trophy that has always eluded them, and Guardiola cannot escape scrutiny for his part in this defeat after taking a tactical gamble which backfired. Guardiola surprisingly decided against utilising either Rodri or Fernandinho as a defensive midfielder, leaving City with a muddled game plan that reduced their effectiveness and rarely presented Chelsea with any problems. Chelsea had the better opportunities throughout, Timo Werner wasting two good chances before Havertz struck and substitute Christian Pulisic squandering another in the second half. City, who lost Kevin De Bruyne to injury midway through the second half, threw on Sergio Aguero for his final appearance but there was no fairytale ending for the club's greatest goalscorer as Chelsea closed out the win. And for Tuchel it was elation after the disappointment of losing last year's final as manager of Paris St-Germain. Tuchel made it three out of three against Guardiola by producing a fiercely disciplined, positive Chelsea performance that has brought a season that was shrouded in uncertainty to the most glorious conclusion. The German has transformed Chelsea since his arrival in January, making significant changes by restoring the towering Antonio Rudiger in central defence and playing the magnificent man-of-the-match N'golo Kante in the position in which he is quite simply a world-class operator. Kante controlled everything from his position in midfield, the complete player giving a breathtaking performance. Chelsea needed to be defensively perfect but this was no smash-and-grab result. It was a front-foot display to take the initiative away from City in the first half. They then held firm in the second with very few anxious moments. They even survived the first-half loss of the experienced Thiago Silva to injury and carried on in the same measured, committed fashion. It is a huge personal triumph for Tuchel, who already had victories against Guardiola in the FA Cup semi-final and in the Premier League at Etihad Stadium going in to this game. And the confidence and self-belief those victories brought was in evidence as Chelsea played with a fearless attitude that never allowed City to settle and sparked wild scenes of celebration among players, staff and the fans inside Porto's Estadio do Dragao. The scale of Tuchel's achievement is that this night was barely imaginable when he arrived in January but now Chelsea are champions of Europe for a second time. City's march to their first Champions League final was accompanied by a sense of destiny - that their years of suffering in Europe's elite tournament were about to end, especially after the manner in which they overcame Paris St-Germain in the semi-final. Sadly for Guardiola's side, the agony will go on after a final in which the Premier League champions failed miserably to do themselves justice and their Spanish manager played a part in their downfall as he tried to join Bob Paisley, Carlo Ancelotti and Zinedine Zidane in the select group to win this tournament three times. Eyebrows were raised when he decided against utilising either of his outstanding holding midfield men Rodri and Fernandinho in favour of an all-out attacking line-up. It produced a confused, muddled performance with the likes of Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin de Bruyne seemingly uncertain of their roles. And with Raheem Sterling having a disappointing night on the left flank as he was dominated by Reece James before being substituted, City rarely carried the threat that has made them the prime force in the Premier League this season. And there was sadness as Aguero was a loser on his final appearance for the club after a glittering career. Guardiola turned to City's greatest goalscorer late on but Chelsea were not to be moved or play their part in someone else's happy ending. City have still had a season of success winning the title and the League Cup. This is still a very bitter pill for Guardiola and his team to swallow but they can tell no hard luck stories about this game.
